What's Buzzing This Month

If you've noticed stink bugs gathering on your windos, crawling on your siding, or sneaking into your home, you're not imagining things. Fall is prime stink bug season in Southeast Michigan. As temperaratures drop, these insects, along withe many others, begin searching for protected places to survive during the winter.
Here's what's happening and why they're so noticeable, and what you can do about it.
1. They're looking for a place to spend the winter.
2. Sunlight draws them to your home's exterior.
3. They release chemical signals to other bugs alerting them of a potential winter home.
4. They can enter through surprisingly small gaps.
Stink Bug Prevention Tips
1. Seal the entry points: caulk around windows, doors, utility penetrations, and exterior trim. Repair or replace torn screens.
2. Inspect the exterior: pay special attention to sunny walls, window frames, soffits, and other roofline gaps where insects tend to gather.
3. Remove bugs indoors carefully: vacuum them or collect without crushing them. Crushing stink bugs can release their characteristic odor.
4. Consider preventative treatment: our professional inspection can identify entry points and determine whether a targeted treatment is necessary.
